Course Description

Employees leave companies on a daily basis, yet few people understand the scope and complexities involved with processing a termination. This course covers the numerous tasks and procedures that must be completed whenever an employee terminates, and includes details on pre- and post-termination responsibilities, the various labor and benefit laws such as COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, ADA, USERRA, and Cafeteria Plans, and the requirements for distributing retirement plan funds.

Outcomes

This course contains numerous End Of Lesson Quizzes to help you measure your progress and mastery of the materials. You can also earn a "Certified ADA Administrator" designation!

Assessment

Successful completion of the "Certified ADA Administrator" test! Certification tests are comprised of 50 randomly-generated questions that are mostly multiple choice, scenario-based questions that test the student's ability to apply the learned content. A score of 85 or higher is required to earn Certification.

This course covers the numerous tasks and procedures that must be completed whenever an employee terminates, and includes details on pre- and post-termination responsibilities, the various labor and benefit laws such as COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, ADA, USERRA, and Cafeteria Plans, and the requirements for distributing retirement plan funds.

The Program also includes an optional test for those who wish to earn a Certified Employment Closure Administrator designation. This Program also qualifies for eight hours of PHR and SPHR re-certification credits!

The Program's easy-to-learn design has numerous tips, examples, and procedural recommendations that are interspersed with interactive Q and A sessions so that you are confident that you are learning and in where your strengths and weaknesses lie.

The special "Bookmark" feature also lets you learn at your own pace, and gives you the ability to review previously completed material.

Besides the basics, you will be able to:

  • Determine which of the ex-employee's benefits must be continued, stopped, or disbursed
  • Properly offer and terminate COBRA
  • Accurately compute vested account balances and make distributions from applicable retirement plans
  • Integrate FMLA, ADA, Workers Compensation, and USERRA leave rules upon termination
  • Properly handle exit interviews, reference checks, HIPAA, and other post-termination resonsibilities
